“But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and “All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.””
2 Timothy 2:19 NLT
The temptation since Eden has been to turn away from God’s truth in favor of our own understanding. To say the least, this is problematic. Firstly, this is because we are sinners. Sin corrupts our ability to narrate our story properly. We skew information to make ourselves seem better than we actually are. We always end up lying about ourselves and subsequently, God. Secondly, and perhaps most importantly, we are creaturely. We must acknowledge that it wasn’t an already sinful Adam and Eve who brought sin into the world. They were perfect beings. Though they were perfect, they still fell short of the glory of God. Therefore, we must acknowledge that we must always rely on God’s transcendent wisdom. No matter saved, or unsaved. Christian’s seem to have a hard time with the second point. They seem to believe two lies. The first is that they become ontologically the same as God. The second is that they can then be good narrators without him anymore. This is tacitly false and creates a major barrier to living godly. It is fact that mankind cannot bear the weight of God’s perfection, neither as sin stained person, nor as an ontological creature.
