2 KINGS‬ ‭7‬:‭17‬-‭20‬ ‭‬‬

“The king appointed his officer to control the traffic at the gate, but he was knocked down and trampled to death as the people rushed out. So everything happened exactly as the man of God had predicted when the king came to his house. The man of God had said to the king, “By this time tomorrow in the markets of Samaria, six quarts of choice flour will cost one piece of silver, and twelve quarts of barley grain will cost one piece of silver.” The king’s officer had replied, “That couldn’t happen even if the Lord opened the windows of heaven!” And the man of God had said, “You will see it happen with your own eyes, but you won’t be able to eat any of it!” And so it was, for the people trampled him to death at the gate!”

2 Kings‬ ‭7‬:‭17‬-‭20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It is said that the Lord works in mysterious ways. This is shown in this passage. What it means is not that God’s ways are necessarily unfathomable, but rather that his ways are intricate and articulate in ways beyond humanities ability to orchestrate. For those who experience God with an open heart, this should not only be obvious, but it is a point of reliance. For those who don’t want to live in his service, it is a point never ending contention. God’s will is simply imminent and inescapable. He is always will be infinitely ahead of the game and all of his opponents. Believers should find solace in this fact and take from it a sense of great comfort and even joy, because equal to his control is his deep love for us. This desire for our good will is as prevalent as his ability to orchestrate life. We need not fear. We need only to approach him with true love and reverence and his favor will bend the universe to mold us into creatures that are pleasing for him and thus by him.
