1 KINGS‬ ‭17‬:‭23‬-‭24‬ ‭‬‬

“Then Elijah brought him down from the upper room and gave him to his mother. “Look!” he said. “Your son is alive!” Then the woman told Elijah, “Now I know for sure that you are a man of God, and that the Lord truly speaks through you.””

1 Kings‬ ‭17‬:‭23‬-‭24‬ ‭NLT‬‬

It is always interesting to see the things necessary for people to believe in God. Firstly, Elijah had commanded the rain to stop. Then he commanded the reserves of oil and flour to be replenished. One would think this would be enough. Instead, the old woman accuses Elijah of ruining her. She accuses him of heaping her sins upon her for judgment. We must understand that this is somewhat a product of the environment from which she came. Coming from her region, she most likely believed in Baal. Elijah would’ve been an enemy and she most likely blamed him for the general calamity of the region. Therefore she naturally is suspicious of him and his magic, until he demonstrates a power beyond Baal… the power diver life and death. This is what leads her to believe his good intentions and God’s ultimate authority. We must remember who we are ministering to and remain tenderhearted toward them even if they don’t understand. This will eventually give them what they need to bow before God.
