““Now we are being punished because of our wickedness and our great guilt. But we have actually been punished far less than we deserve, for you, our God, have allowed some of us to survive as a remnant. But even so, we are again breaking your commands and intermarrying with people who do these detestable things. Won’t your anger be enough to destroy us, so that even this little remnant no longer survives? O Lord, God of Israel, you are just. We come before you in our guilt as nothing but an escaped remnant, though in such a condition none of us can stand in your presence.””
Ezra 9:13-15 NLT
The position of a Christian should always be that of humility. There are too many believers who, once adopted by God’s grace, unashamedly throw that back into his face. They treat God as if he has opened a Pandora’s box that cannot be closed again and now he is simply stuck with them. They act as if they are entitled to his provision and full adopt the position of a spoiled royal brat. Christian’s should be the opposite. God’s grace should always be at the forefront of our mindset and deeds. This is most of all true when we approach God. We must take seriously that although it is right to trust God’s loving character, it is a love that we did not earn. In point of fact, without his grace, even in perfection, we would destroy that love and its blessings. This should turn our actions into those of an eternally grateful person. Our God loves us despite who we are and what, even a perfect version of us, is capable of doing. Too many Christians forget this as they approach God.
