EZRA‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬ ‭‬‬

“In the first year of King Cyrus of Persia, the Lord fulfilled the prophecy he had given through Jeremiah. He stirred the heart of Cyrus to put this proclamation in writing and to send it throughout his kingdom:”

Ezra‬ ‭1‬:‭1‬ ‭NLT‬‬

There is much to be said for the plans of men. When one man sets a path for himself, it is staggering to see what he can do. When a group of humans determine that they can do something and they focus their collective will upon it, we can change the landscape of space. For millennia, the night sky looked the same. Now it is filled with more lights, a space station and a flag upon the moon. Our tenacity is born into us. It is part of our makeup as image bearers. Yet it doesn’t compare to the capacity and ability for God to make his plans come to fruition. Wherever his plans are laid, there they manifest. Just as Nebudchedezzar was stirred to carry Israel away, so was Cyrus stirred to allow them back. It was all predicted and it all happened. This should give us pause for all things stated by God. With a simple stirring of the heart, of his own will, authority and power, he can rise and topple nations. Our plans may be grand and impressive, but our hope and trust should be in God’s.
