“But now is the time to get rid of anger, rage, malicious behavior, slander, and dirty language. Don’t lie to each other, for you have stripped off your old sinful nature and all its wicked deeds. Put on your new nature, and be renewed as you learn to know your Creator and become like him.”
Colossians 3:8-10 NLT
There is a certain urgency present in a true and meaningful relationship. The gravity of that relationship beckons you to share every detail of your existence and be in communion. This typed of tenderheartedness informs how you function and urges you to act as if the other person is present even when they are not. Instead of simply being alone in life, you carry them with you in spirit and superimpose them into your history and character. This is to be our relationship with Christ. It is not a set of rules but rather a set of truths. When we live him, we bring him into everything and that should meaningfully alter everything about how we function. Unfortunately, many believe the opposite to be true about Christ and relationships in general. They believe that Christ should be a silent partner who spectates our lives and applauds its accomplishments. But he is not a silent partner. Being with him means adopting elements of his personhood. This means bringing new truths into yourself and leaving old ones to die. At the end of our journey with Christ, those around should not only testify to the difference in us, the change should be so drastic that our pre Christ self should seem like a startlingly distant nightmare.
