What does it mean to sow by the Holy Spirit? For many this has come to mean the cultivation of their own desires. This is due to the fact that their understanding of the person of the Holy Spirit is unbiblical. They know the Holy Spirit as an impersonal force whose personality is a reflection of ours. In truth, this is squarely the opposite. The Holy Spirit’s person is distinct and knowable. He has desires and feelings about how we behave with his power. He doesn’t want us to cultivate something other than his own fruit. Instead he wishes us to cultivate the fruit Paul describes in Galatians 6. This is his work and as creatures empowered by him, it is his expectation for us. It is nothing less than the cultivation of the relational essence shared between the Father and Son in the Trinity. His wish is that this be extended in all of Christianity. When we cultivate our own desires, why we bear is nothing less than the opposite of this. It leads to a shameful and ugly facsimile of God.
MY NAME IS JOSH MCGARY.
First, I am a Pastor of a small church in Portland, Oregon named Aletheia Bible Fellowship. We call it ABF. I have been a pastor there for the better part of 20 years.
I am very eclectic. What I love, I love loudly and immersively. I have notable collections of toys, funko pops, and vinyl. I also infamously love pop culture, comic books, technology, the arts, psychology and philosophy.
