26 I am writing these things to warn you about those who want to lead you astray.
1 John 2:26 NLT
In a world where many have a hard time being direct and value soft teaching and a convenience of endless emotionally driven validation, John speaks plainly. There are some who would lead Christians astray. These people teach false doctrines about the deity & the humanity of Christ that drastically alter the way in which Christians love each other. This effect is not a neutral one. For the non-believer, it is a lie about who God is but for a believer, it is blasphemy worthy of the term Anti-Christ. According to John, not only are these people dangerous, but they were never truly Christians, to begin with. Their relationship with Jesus was only one of convenience. John sets the tone for Christian leaders. This applies to teachers, pastors, fathers, and mothers. We must be discerning in our faith. How we love each other is not only at stake, but it is being actively targeted. It is done by the diluting of the truth of God. We must be willing to say difficult things to the people we love. Not doing so has grave consequences for the relationships that we value, both with God and with men.
