This passage highlights a significant truth. People are meant to be influenced. This is not a negative thing. God created us to crave meaningful relationships. Scripture says that we were created with his Word. We want it & need it to survive. Biblically, this fact also makes relationships a part of our being where great precaution must be taken. If we allow the wrong influences to speak into our lives, they have a doorway into our very being that could cause mass corruption. Therefore, it is important to let our first conversations be those had with God. It is important that we have our first thoughts be those that ponder his Word. There is another promise in scripture that notes that God’s word doesn’t return void. If the hole of relationship in our hearts & minds is filled with an everpresent & overflowing relationship with God, then not only will it be unable to be the weak link in our armor, but it will be the thing that influences others. Guard your hearts against false idols.
