Paul’s challenge is to that of a unity of intent. To be truly united with each other & God is to walk with a conviction about actions. Everything has a base level meaning. It has a base level ideology behind it that, while not itself a threat to God, speaks volumes about where your heart stands in allegiance. A child who hates your father & bullies you may not be able to hurt your father. But to make that child your new best friend & overlook his ill intent toward your Father speaks volumes about your relationship with your Father. It speaks of your character in areas such as loyalty & empathy. Demons fear God & tremble at his name, but they also seek his demise. We cannot befriend them, & adopt their practices without it effecting our relationship with God. Since walking in God’s character & blessing is what gels our relationship with each other, we cannot take on their traits without it affecting that either. Mature believers will consider how God feels about something before acting.
