There is nothing that God cannot handle, though there is plenty that will be difficult. The difficulty may result in death to our mortal shells. It certainly did for nearly every apostle and Jesus himself. This verse isn’t about facing adversity and the promise of overcoming it while physically intact. It is about facing sin and overcoming it with a Godly character intact. There is never a time where there is no other option but to sin. Sometimes the way out that God provides is death. But the option to remain in God and he in you is always present. A large portion of being a man is the maturity to own these choices as our responsibility and privilege. This maturity is measured by how well we face them with decorum and bold indignation. Do we go before the firing squad and the fire staying true to our God and conforming to his character, or do we give that up for a few more moments of time with our current idols of ease or family or any other thing we truly value more? The choice is ours.
