This passage is important to unity. It is about the perspective from which our unity comes. Namely, the issue is allegiance and understanding that in Christ, we not only have new end goals and results but also new origins. Our churches and church workers may have brought us to Christ, but faith in him through his grace has made us FROM him. It is both sad and telling that often a separation of conviction from a local body will lead to a separation from Jesus himself. This illustrates that a body did not properly align its parishioner with Jesus, to begin with. No wonder a mora conviction arose. I thank God for men like Paul who gave us examples of how to teach alignment and discipleship without stealing allegiance and origins from God.
