LEVITICUS‬ ‭9‬:‭5‬-‭8‬ ‭

“So the people presented all these things at the entrance of the Tabernacle, just as Moses had commanded. Then the whole community came forward and stood before the Lord. And Moses said, “This is what the Lord has commanded you to do so that the glory of the Lord may appear to you.” Then Moses said to Aaron, “Come to the altar and sacrifice your sin offering and your burnt offering to purify yourself and the people. Then present the offerings of the people to purify them, making them right with the Lord, just as he has commanded.” So Aaron went to the altar and slaughtered the calf as a sin offering for himself.”

Leviticus‬ ‭9‬:‭5‬-‭8‬ ‭NLT

Jesus spends a great deal of time dealing with hypocrisy. His disdain for it is no better outlined than in regard to the teachers of religious law and the priesthood. Here he saw a constant issue rearing itself. Their job was to provide hell for the people. They were to be intercessions that helped people get to God. Instead, they often stood in the way. The high Priest, at the time, understood all too well the impact of Jesus’ teaching and was as jealous of its outcome as any king Herod ordering the murder of the babies. When ministers are ordained to serve the people as intercessors, before this can begin in earnest, it must begin in the heart. There must be a ritual cleansing that takes place of the priest first. Believers under Christ are intercessors for the world. We are all a part of the priesthood. Before we begin ministering others, we too must be cleansed. Aaron, who led the Sinai rebellion for Baal, was not perfect, but his ritual cleansing was enough to prepare him for service. It does not take someone perfect to begin ministering to others. But we must be honest about our qualifications. The priesthood is not a merit based system. We didn’t earn our service. We must not forget to participate in it ourselves.

Jesus’ View on Hypocrisy: Jesus strongly disapproved of hypocrisy, particularly among religious leaders who claimed to guide people to God but often hindered them.

Importance of Inner Cleansing for Ministers: Before serving as intercessors, ministers need a cleansing of the heart, similar to Aaron’s ritual cleansing, to prepare them for service.

Priesthood of All Believers: All believers under Christ are part of the priesthood and have the responsibility to minister to others, regardless of their perfection.
