PSALM‬ ‭133‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭‬

“How wonderful and pleasant it is when brothers live together in harmony! For harmony is as precious as the anointing oil that was poured over Aaron’s head, that ran down his beard and onto the border of his robe. Harmony is as refreshing as the dew from Mount Hermon that falls on the mountains of Zion. And there the Lord has pronounced his blessing, even life everlasting.”

Psalms‬ ‭133‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭NLT‬

The world views peace as a thing to be attained. It is, in fact, one of this world’s highest virtues. Yet, there is a tacit difference between peace and harmony. This is best illustrated by substituting methods for peace. Many have sought to create peace through uniformity. Others have sought to create peace through the abandonment of any structure. Biblically, we see that the way forward for peace to exist is harmony. The psalmist speaks highly of the concept. Harmony is neither conformity or chaos. It is the willful interplay of distinctions to create a unique blend of the two. It is a willing submission of one’s individuality to be used as a part of a greater whole. This is aspect of oneself is not to be dissipated by the whole, nor is it meant to overpower it. It is meant to participate with it, nourishing and being nourished by it. The psalmist describes likens the value of such as interaction as precious. Interestingly, he likens its preciousness as that which has been set aside for christening ministry. First with Aaron the high priest, and second with what comes from Mount Hebron. This is a place of that blessing and life was pronounced from. Likewise, harmony should be thought of a messenger of such things. In our peace, we should strive for harmony. We should strive for a balance of personalities, where an individuals gifts can flourish without them being drained or drowned by the unified song. This will refresh all who participate in it and hear it. It will be the seat of a righteous ministry.
