PSALM‬ ‭123‬:‭1‬-‭4‬ ‭

“I lift my eyes to you, O God, enthroned in heaven. We keep looking to the Lord our God for his mercy, just as servants keep their eyes on their master, as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal. Have mercy on us, Lord, have mercy, for we have had our fill of contempt. We have had more than our fill of the scoffing of the proud and the contempt of the arrogant.”

They say that eyes are the window of the soul. They allow things both to come in but they also keep them out. Our eyes serve this purpose spiritually as well. What we open them to is what we will see. Too many Christian’s do not have the practice of opening their eyes to the heavens. Instead they look to themselves. This can be in the form of pride in one’s abilities or accomplishments. Perhaps they look to their establish foundations such as family or a career. Either way, a righteous man turns his eyes toward God. His eyes are constantly looking for a sign. That sign is not ambiguous. It is a sign of God’s mercy. The turning one’s eyes toward heaven is recognizing the nature and power of God. It is understanding that his blessings are imminent. They are constantly manifesting for those who love him. It is not delusion to look to the heavens. It is faith in a God who doesn’t forget us and actively blesses us no matter what we have done or where we are at. A mature believer ought not look beside him, behind him, or even in front of him. He ought fix his gaze on the heavens above because this is where the mercies that we need herald from.
