“Praise the Lord, all you nations. Praise him, all you people of the earth. For his unfailing love for us is powerful; the Lord’s faithfulness endures forever. Praise the Lord!”
Psalms 117:1-2 NLT
The idea that God’s love is powerful is directly linked to the idea that it endures forever. Indeed, this capacity and ability are the basis for true power. The first aspect is its endurance. This means that it holds true no matter what it is challenged with. It has a strong integrity. Entropy has no effect on it. The adage goes that things are never built to last. This is not true of God’s love. It lasts no matter the cost to him. Knowing that he chose to make men who would reject him, it seems that his love comes at great cost. The second is that his love is forever. It’s not integrity never degrades. It outlasts all assaults and will always outlast them. For humans, this is a truly gospel message. It is the crux of it. God is with us. Jesus echoes this sentiment when he commands his followers to remember that he is with them, even in the end. Because of this, we can be strengthened by his love for us, even though we fail in our love for him. Our covenant relationship will also endure. Its promises and blessings will ring true no matter the condition we leave our relationship in. His love will always be a point that can be relied upon. He is truly worthy of praise.
