PSALM‬ ‭87‬:‭1‬-‭7‬ ‭

“On the holy mountain stands the city founded by the Lord. He loves the city of Jerusalem more than any other city in Israel. O city of God, what glorious things are said of you! Interlude I will count Egypt and Babylon among those who know me— also Philistia and Tyre, and even distant Ethiopia. They have all become citizens of Jerusalem! Regarding Jerusalem it will be said, “Everyone enjoys the rights of citizenship there.” And the Most High will personally bless this city. When the Lord registers the nations, he will say, “They have all become citizens of Jerusalem.” Interlude The people will play flutes and sing, “The source of my life springs from Jerusalem!””

Psalms‬ ‭87‬:‭1‬-‭7‬ ‭NLT

Too many live for this life and this life alone. They do not see themselves as something more than what they are and if they do it is merely in the confines of that thing that they were. Many do not strive for more. A lot of this has to do with the nature of the fall of humanity. It should be a curious thing that one of the many blessings afforded to those who believe is a citizenship in the kingdom of heaven. In this way our salvation is not merely a personal thing. It is a corporate thing as well. A lot of the blessings we receive are actually directly attached to this citizenship and therefore sadly left unexplored by those who merely view their salvation as individualistic. This lack of citizenship in our understanding of blessing is an outcome of a worldview devoid of the spiritual context of the fall. Namely, the idea of divestment of allegiance in it. Sin was not a neutral act. It was an act of rebellion against God’s kingdom. Those who sin were traitors to another kingdom. The defected to the illegitimate kingdom of Satan and its attempts to overthrow God. They were conscripted into his citizenship and promised the blessings thereof. Therefore, salvation is a return to the kingdom of God, and reinstatement of citizenship. This is an important thing to understand about the nature of our salvation.
