PSALMS‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭12‬ ‭‬‬

”Why are the nations so angry? Why do they waste their time with futile plans? The kings of the earth prepare for battle; the rulers plot together against the Lord and against his anointed one. “Let us break their chains,” they cry, “and free ourselves from slavery to God.” But the one who rules in heaven laughs. The Lord scoffs at them. Then in anger he rebukes them, terrifying them with his fierce fury. For the Lord declares, “I have placed my chosen king on the throne in Jerusalem, on my holy mountain.” The king proclaims the Lord’s decree: “The Lord said to me, ‘You are my son. Today I have become your Father. Only ask, and I will give you the nations as your inheritance, the whole earth as your possession. You will break them with an iron rod and smash them like clay pots.’” Now then, you kings, act wisely! Be warned, you rulers of the earth! Serve the Lord with reverent fear, and rejoice with trembling. Submit to God’s royal son, or he will become angry, and you will be destroyed in the midst of all your activities— for his anger flares up in an instant. But what joy for all who take refuge in him!“

Psalms‬ ‭2‬:‭1‬-‭12‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The ideas of man’s rebellion are ancient ideas. They are a curious set of ideas since they first came to man at a time when man wanted something he already had. Man was the pinnacle of creation and set to rule over all of it, but he chose to abandon this for the delusion of being God. He was already a son of god in this sense. He was already anointed in this way. This is the sad of irony of his rebellion and perhaps the reason why God chose Jacob to become Israel. Jacob wrestled with God to receive a blessing he would’ve received had he waited. And though he received it, the cost of such a demand was a life of infirmity and disability. This psalm shows that god mocks this type of wisdom. Afterwords, he rallies against it. We should not continue the sin of trying to take what god has not given. We should not continue the sin of rejecting what god has given. God anoints who he anoints, how he wants to. Had we learned that lesson in Eden, we wouldn’t have been in the mess that we are in. It is important to learn that lesson now. We must choose at every moment to accept God’s good graces, regardless of how we expected them and serve as he has demanded. Anything more invites our destruction and proves we have learned nothing.
