EXODUS‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬-‭13‬ ‭

”So Moses told the people of Israel what the Lord had said, but they refused to listen anymore. They had become too discouraged by the brutality of their slavery. Then the Lord said to Moses, “Go back to Pharaoh, the king of Egypt, and tell him to let the people of Israel leave his country.” “But Lord!” Moses objected. “My own people won’t listen to me anymore. How can I expect Pharaoh to listen? I’m such a clumsy speaker!” But the Lord spoke to Moses and Aaron and gave them orders for the Israelites and for Pharaoh, the king of Egypt. The Lord commanded Moses and Aaron to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt.“

Exodus‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬-‭13‬ ‭NLT

There is an important truth that all who serve in the Lord must come to know, and it is that everything happens as a matter of his will. This is not to say that man has no agency of his own, but rather that man cannot effect the course of their lives in a way that defies his will. Another way of stating this is that man has no power beyond God’s. For some this is a terrifying prospect. They have spent their whole lives trying to amass competency, skill, resources and power, precisely for the purposes of being able to be like God. They want to be the definers of their own reality. But a believer ought to understand that there is no power beyond God’s. This includes our own ability to be weak. It is one of God’s favorite processes, to show his glory, through the weakness of men. He loves to humble the proud and glorify the humble as a means of instructing us about his nature. Moses was not honest about the situation. He stated that Pharoah wouldn’t believe him, just as the Israelites lost faith, and this was because of his own power, or lack thereof. But truthfully, this is the perfect case in which God would demonstrate his power. In moments like this, we need to be honest that it is our fear and lack of faith that hold us back, rather than our lack of ability. God can work in our inability. Often, he chooses us specifically for this reason.
