DANIEL‬ ‭7‬:‭9‬-‭12‬ ‭

“I watched as thrones were put in place and the Ancient One sat down to judge. His clothing was as white as snow, his hair like purest wool. He sat on a fiery throne with wheels of blazing fire, and a river of fire was pouring out, flowing from his presence. Millions of angels ministered to him; many millions stood to attend him. Then the court began its session, and the books were opened. I continued to watch because I could hear the little horn’s boastful speech. I kept watching until the fourth beast was killed and its body was destroyed by fire. The other three beasts had their authority taken from them, but they were allowed to live a while longer.”

Daniel‬ ‭7‬:‭9‬-‭12‬ ‭NLT

What many do not understand is that the events that happen are not detached from each other in space and time. As finite beings, we have a tendency to disconnect and compartmentalize our experiences to make sense for the moments that we currently exist in. This is not so for God. Here, Daniel sees that before God, all is known, all is written, all is connected and all has happened. What men come to know before an infinite God, by necessity of their finiteness, is their own beginnings and their own ends. For kingdoms and nations, this undoubtedly means destruction. There is nothing that stands the test of time, as Daniel’s vision imply, except that which is carved out by the infinite God. For people, it makes the boasting and arrogant appear for more absurd than they perhaps would in normal space and time. How does one destined for destruction and born of dirt, boast before the infinite God? Indeed, the final setting would necessitate a courtroom if God would take seriously such spurious claims. Perhaps it is man who tries to put God on trial, another attempt at Babel, rather than God. In any case, man will fail, no matter how many claims he brings. Our God reigns supreme in all creation, space and time. No one is right to boast.
