HEBREWS‬ ‭13‬:‭1‬-‭8‬ ‭‬‬

“Keep on loving each other as brothers and sisters. Don’t forget to show hospitality to strangers, for some who have done this have entertained angels without realizing it! Remember those in prison, as if you were there yourself. Remember also those being mistreated, as if you felt their pain in your own bodies. Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. God will surely judge people who are immoral and those who commit adultery. Don’t love money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” So we can say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”

Hebrews‬ ‭13‬:‭1‬-‭8‬ ‭NLT‬‬

When describing what it means to be a person of faith, it is tempting to assume that this means that we ought to live beyond the means of which we were living. Some of us believe that we now must become spiritual giants, qualified by great spiritual feats, such as parting large bodies of water, slaying towering foes, changing water to wine or walking on water. Yet the author of Hebrews paints a different picture. His hall of faith includes simple, of not difficult, choices. Then he begins to conclude that our faith in God’s providence opens us up to live a simple, if not difficult, life. We are to respect our gatherings, to love each other, to be kind regardless of potential gain. We are to empathize with others, celebrate marriage, live for more than money. The freedom to do these simple things will place us in the hall of faith. Interestingly, these are simple skills which Society today lacks. They are the virtues which even Christians today lack. This is because the ability to live with Christ like nobility, is not built upon grand gestures. These are just works to try and force our way into heaven. It is built upon acceptance that Jesus is who he said he is. It is built upon remembering and honoring his love for us.
