HEBREWS‬ ‭6‬:‭13‬-‭20‬‬‬

“For example, there was God’s promise to Abraham. Since there was no one greater to swear by, God took an oath in his own name, saying: “I will certainly bless you, and I will multiply your descendants beyond number.” Then Abraham waited patiently, and he received what God had promised. Now when people take an oath, they call on someone greater than themselves to hold them to it. And without any question that oath is binding. God also bound himself with an oath, so that those who received the promise could be perfectly sure that he would never change his mind. So God has given both his promise and his oath. These two things are unchangeable because it is impossible for God to lie. Therefore, we who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us. This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls. It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. Jesus has already gone in there for us. He has become our eternal High Priest in the order of Melchizedek.”

Hebrews‬ ‭6‬:‭13‬-‭20‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Telling the truth is the fundamental building block in any healthy and positive relationship. We do this by testifying to the voracity of a specific set of ideas which are quantified by agreed upon sounds that we call words. To come to these major agreements, we must make millions of minor agreements. We must be able to agree that red is red, before we can speak about the blood of Christ being red. In modern society, terms like men and women, are, increasingly, no longer agreed upon. It should, therefore, stand to reason that, ideas built upon truths are equally in danger. Can we have confidence in our salvation if the very words used to define it are not in agreement. Fortunately, our worldview is not dictated by agreement, but transcendent revelation. God sets a standard for us that defines ideas, from minute to massive. Because of this we can have confidence in whatever he says because it is not a shifting thing. His ideas do not change because they are not limited to time and space. He swears by himself alone, and by nature of being transcendent, he alone is capable of being sworn upon. This makes Christians uniquely suited to navigate all insecurity and difficulty. We ought to be able to run with abandon through the shifting sands of our constantly collapsing society ideals. Praise God that he is supreme.
