“Long ago God spoke many times and in many ways to our ancestors through the prophets. And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe. The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven. This shows that the Son is far greater than the angels, just as the name God gave him is greater than their names.”
Hebrews 1:1-4 NLT
Jesus is sitting at the right hand of God. What many don’t understand is that the reason he is sitting at the right hand if God is not because he is God. This is a point that is too often taken foregranted in Christian culture. Jesus is not reigning in heaven because he is God, but rather because he was obedient to God, the Father. This was, apparently something that was not easy to understand in the spirit world. How could the Son of God, a lowly substance locked human, be “higher than the angels?” It was apparently a known plan and a confusing one. In fact, it was promised to him that he would inherit everything the Father had. The answer comes in the form of Jesus. Jesus is an incarnated member of the Godhead who happens to be its second person. As God, he created. As a man, he fulfilled the wishes of God. In this way, he was given an inheritance set aside for carnal creatures. His first fruits, made other finite creatures worthy to also receive an inheritance that they had no power to attain. Jesus is the missing link as to why a created creature can reign with God. This is because, though he takes up rank with the finite, he was always more than this. Because of this, we can be more than finite. Jesus is the mystery solved.
