“It is God’s privilege to conceal things and the king’s privilege to discover them. No one can comprehend the height of heaven, the depth of the earth, or all that goes on in the king’s mind! Remove the impurities from silver, and the sterling will be ready for the silversmith. Remove the wicked from the king’s court, and his reign will be made secure by justice. Don’t demand an audience with the king or push for a place among the great. It’s better to wait for an invitation to the head table than to be sent away in public disgrace. Just because you’ve seen something, don’t be in a hurry to go to court. For what will you do in the end if your neighbor deals you a shameful defeat? When arguing with your neighbor, don’t betray another person’s secret. Others may accuse you of gossip, and you will never regain your good reputation.”
Proverbs 25:2-10 NLT
In life and death, their will always be something and someone to serve. It is a fool who thinks that he will one day sit at the top and reign above all. Whether it is for riches, fame or authority, only a fool pursues those things for the sake of those thins alone. Their presence can correlate to wisdom but it does not create it. Likewise God places those things on the wise and foolish. They are the same as his rain, here today and gone tomorrow upon the heads of the wicked and the just. Additionally, In many places the scripture warns of wanting to be a leader. The truth is that the payoff of leadership comes at the price of proper usage of that leadership. As Solomon was king, he knew this first hand. He saw the burden of a man who had only God to answer for, but had everybody relying on his every word. To Solomon, this is an unenviable position. If these things fall upon you, then you must do right by them. This means ruling with a just hand. It means ruling as you reasonably believe that God would do. But if you don’t have that power, fame or fortune, do not envy it either. Do not make decisions that compromise your godly nature in order to attain these things. You will not respect them in the end, and they will destroy you.
