PROVERBS‬ ‭12‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭‬‬

“To learn, you must love discipline; it is stupid to hate correction. The Lord approves of those who are good, but he condemns those who plan wickedness. Wickedness never brings stability, but the godly have deep roots.”
‭‭

Proverbs‬ ‭12‬:‭1‬-‭3‬ ‭NLT‬‬

These verses seem obvious on the surface of things. They seem to be common sense. Yet again, Solomon elucidates a great hole in the worldly thinking of most people. A Godly person loves discipline. By extension, an ungodly person does not. Extrapolating further, he opines that it would be stupid to not love correction. The his is because there is a fundamental link between being corrected and being disciplined. Discipline requires a level of rigidity. As finite people, this is not going to be found in our nature but, asather, our ability to fine tune ourselves. As finite people, our lives are going to be spent veering off track. For some it will be a heavy departure, for others a small one. Either way, even an inch off course will drastically effect the end result if the journey is long enough. Therefore, for those who love discipline, correction is a blessing. It strengthens the end result. It is necessary to love it if you love discipline, and if you love the thing you are pursuing. Knowing this, Solomon’s judgment against those who revile correction is not harsh, as crude as it sounds, it is blatantly obvious and should be stated as so. In this regard, more Christians who claim to love God ought to be called stupid.
