ABOUT THE MUSIC

Rumors is the first song on the album Reject. Partly, this is because it was the song that inspired the writing of the Album. The song came from a conversation that I overheard at the local pub. It was a group of three friends chatting and one of them was relating the story of how he had deconstructed his faith. He claimed that it was the best thing for him and that he had no regrets. As I listened to his reasoning, it was apparent to me that he hadn’t really known God at all.

As I pondered this fact, coupled with the self-sacrifice in the Jesus narrative, I wondered what God would say had he overheard, in the human sense, these friends talking about him and his sacrifices. After all that Christ had done and given up, to hear his former love relegate their relationship to a quirky note in history, made me very sad.

And so it was that Rumors was born. This first song sets the stage for an emotional exploration of the sad God, who died for a person that truly doesn’t reciprocate. When speaking of the God of the Bible, his multi facets cannot be understated, but an area that I feel is rarely explored is the hurt and pain he must feel at his rejection. This song serves as the introduction to the sad and lonely God.
