LET GO LOVE

LYRICS

VERSE 1

D G
Don’t run away
D
Don’t go and hide
Em
I will always be there
G A
To stand by your side
But now comes a time, a place
A
I can’t go
G
And you don’t need to push away
A
Because I already know

PRE-CHORUS

G
but what won’t we mend
D A
When we don’t stop to set it?
G
And what won’t be sure
D A
When our hearts might forget it?
G
And what can’t we know
D A
If we don’t let love grow?
G
But what type of love
D A
If we’ll never let go?

CHORUS

D
Don’t you know
A
That losing today
G
Is all we can do
A
To see you stay
So…

VERSE 2

Don’t run away
D
Don’t fight the change
Em
I will always be there
G A
Our love will remain
Now is your time, now you should
A
go
G
I will always carry you in my heart
A
You should know

PRE-CHORUS

Cause how do you love
D A
If there’s no risk to let it?
G
And what will you lose
D A
Just so you don’t forget it?
G
And what won’t you know
D A
If you don’t ever grow?
G
And can this stay love
D A
If we’ll never let go?

CHORUS

D
You should know
A
That losing today
G
Is all we can do
A
To see you stay

BRIDGE

D
And I just want you to know
A
That I’ve always known
G
That I might have to be alone
A
If I wanted you to stay
D
The choice has got to be your own
G
To live with consequences your way
C G
And when your path finds you at my door
G
Just know
A
my hope is for that day

D
Don’t run away
A
I’m letting you go
G
A

CHORUS

D
You should know
A
That losing today
G
Is everything that I will do
A
Just to see you stay

I’ll Walk away

ABOUT THE MUSIC

Let Go Love is a song about the loneliness of God. Inherent in that loneliness is a deep and complicated sadness that comes from self-sacrifice for the good of someone you love.

In juxtaposition to Heavy is the Heart, which is about people leaving for unhealthy reasons, Let Go Love expresses the inevitability of being alone as the reality sets in that, for better or worse, people will always leave. For God, this plays out as everything from an attitude and actuation of sin into judgment, to the boundaries of finite union with an infinite God. It is an aspect of God’s holiness, that he is always alone, even when it may hurt him.

This song was dream inspired. As I was writing the album, it entered my dream, name and all, as a song I had written for my bandmate in The Theory Of, Jasmin. There it was a song of bittersweet acceptance that relationships must change. But as it came into the waking world, it became much bigger.

For me, it shares a hope that those who must leave, do so without seeking to destroy the love built over time.
